The Anchorage Assembly has given approval for the first commercial marijuana grow operation. Public hearings were held to discuss the proposed cultivation facilities. Dream Green Farms is the first to obtain a commercial grower’s license in Alaska.

The grow is said to start its operations as quickly as possible to begin serving the residents of Anchorage. The first harvest should be ready for sale in December, according to statements made by Dream Green Farms ownership.

Assemblyman Dick Traini said, “This whole green revolution, it starts here tonight with the City of Anchorage.”

A second application, from Arctic Herbery, is pending further review, according to AND.com. In response to their application being put “on-hold,” Assemblyman Tim Steele reportedly told the owner of Arctic Herbery that, “The concern is all these little details and we’re going to have to work them out. We’re not picking on you, it’s a new process.”

The voting to approve Dream Green Farms’ application was unanimous. One member of the assembly was excused given his involvement in another marijuana business. Dream Green Farms was said to have an impressive application with clear, high-standards set for other marijuana business owners to follow.

In response to their application, Assemblywoman Amy Demboski said, “I don’t know how to put this other than this application right here should be the standard by which all others are measured – period. No offense to those that are coming behind it but this is like ‘A’ work and this is exactly what we’re looking for.”

A meeting regarding Arctic Herbery’s application will be held on August 9., at the next scheduled meeting for the Anchorage Assembly.
